Yellow diamond earrings make an amazing gift for a woman with discerning tastes.  Here’s a little background as well as some tips to purchasing yellow diamond earrings.
It’s a well kept secret among beginners in the jewelry trade that diamonds come in unique colors  – they can be black, blue, pink, orange, green, or yellow.  The ‘Yellow” in yellow earrings comes from nitrogen content and is graded on how deep the yellow is.  These diamonds are well known as “fancy” diamonds and command a premium price.
The wonderful thing about these “fancy” diamonds is that while they are colored and may have the appearance of other popular gems, nothing on Earth can match the flaming brilliance of a diamond, regardless of its color.  There are a number of uses for fancy diamonds including unique necklaces, rings, bracelets, and of course, yellow diamond earrings.
Here’s a brief video on “fancy” colored diamonds, including yellow diamonds:

Things to know before you choose a set of yellow diamond earrings:

1) You will want to be sure the setting prominently displays your yellow diamonds – some will do this better than others!
2) Get the paperwork and certifications for your diamonds.  Not only are there concerns with the purchase of conflict diamonds, but you will want to be sure that the diamond has not been treated in any way to give the appearance of yellow without being a true yellow diamond.   Proof of authenticity from a professional gemologist  is an important piece in any jewelry purchase.
3)  Keep in mind that while the value of a darker hue of yellow is more valuable, you will want to match the tint of the diamond to the skin tone of the wearer.  Darker diamonds will look better with darker skin tones, while lighter diamonds will look better with lighter skin tones.  Balance it out, as a very light yellow tint to the diamond may be confused with a sub-par diamond!  A true yellow diamond should not appear cloudy but have a solid, rich yellow hue.    Keep all of these things in mind – you will want to wear it and wear it well!
4) Yellow diamonds look wonderful in either a classic round cut or a princess cut.  To see the different possibilities in diamond cuts, see diamond videos on our site.
