What makes a yellow diamond yellow?   A yellow diamond is formed based on the level of nitrogen content in the diamond.  The yellow appearance is the refractive properties of this nitrogen that becomes infused inside.   These diamonds may also have a green or orange tent to them.  A darker shade of yellow is always preferred over a lighter shade – a lighter shade of yellow may be seen as an imperfect clear diamond (with cracks) when they are in fact yellow.
